The most sophisticated that technology becomes, the wider and
deeper the chasm between the educated people and the under-educated). Scientific and technical knowledge is an important source of power
(I assume that’s the origin of the Maoist logic behind the Cultural Revolution.
Therefore the mass killings of educated people in Maoist China during the
Cultural Revolution.) But only large institutions have the resources to exploit
it, *(mega-corporations and the state.)
As a result scientists and professionals are the targets of
these institutions. They are corrupted
by subtle bribes or outrageous open acts of greed and manipulation of the
system in order to get whatever they want. For example pharmaceutical
corporations have been given freebies to doctors in exchange for prescribing
and promoting their drugs. Thus science is used to increase the power of the
already powerful, and to frustrate the expectations of the powerless as well as
removing them from the political process(this is happening right now in the U.S.) As I write these paragraphs the world
is going through really weird times, spooky and sometimes bizarre.
The conclusions of this study have been continually disputed
by its critics and its defenders. And this is because the study
says that by the year 2070 both the population and the economy will reach their
climax (it does not necessarily mean the peak.)
From that point on, everything will start to fall, to
decrease, to cool down. In other words, *entropy will kick in.
The real bad news is; the economic and existential drag of *entropy is already here. The U.S. is already imploding under our eyes and our once envied society is dreaded worldwide for its horrendous record in health care, education system, social cohesion human rights and so on on.
