The corporation is the most influential contribution to humanity by United States of America. By capitalizing in the power that capital plus technology produce, the United States organized around the basic principle of maximize productivity and minimize cost. The American Republic did in 100 years what Roman, British and other empires did in 200 or 300 years.
By pitching their system to the world as the best, and fighting wars in defense of the free world whom by the way Britain was part of it, an empire in its own merit and oppressor of people too.
The American Republic defended and empire and defeated two emerging powers of their time, Japan and Germany. The used the power of technology to achieve mass production and obliterate Germans and Japanese. For a while it looked as if the American capitalism was the only viable option for civilization. The Soviet Union looked petrified and radical. The American dream was about freedom of transit, movement, thought, expression. Unless you challenge the fundamental mantra of American capitalism the right to own property including guns and the right to cheat behind a facade of legalistic mumbo jumbo like the mega corporations including financial giants, too big to fail. The megacorporation will do almost anything legal or not to evade their social and financial responsibilities.

Revelation of the beast!

The real danger that cybernetics may bring about, and indeed already is; that makes more likely the establishment of a fascist plutocracy. A community wholly controlled by a central government receiving orders by the financial elite.
Most dictatorships, autocracies, or corporate plutocracies, namely oligarchies, oil tycoons or plain populist clowns, have in common the intention to exert control over communications, weapons, the economy, and in most cases they have access to the use of weapons, violence, terror and war. In some cases is very subtle like Monsanto or Big Tobacco using the power of money and lawyers to suppress the truth. In other cases more overt like Big Oil or Big military industry, "Money, Guns, and Lawyers," to quote the already gone Warren Zevon.
They rely in their enormous advantage that technology with the use of vast financial resources they have over the rest of us. We may have not a totalitarian society, at least not in the old soviet style. But every mega corporation exert power towards their own form of totalitarian authoritarianism within their walls and project power and influence outwards too. In other words totalitarian states lie to us to control us. The corporation lie to us to profit from us and buy government too.
There have been totalitarians and dictators since the Stone Age, and all of them have something in common, they want to know everything about the rest of us friend or foe. The difference now is that they are in possession of the most formidable array of cutting edge technology. Which give em an unfair advantage over the rest of us, and they exert it.
The real danger for us is our belief that technology is neutral, apolitical and based on rationality. When in reality, every state and mega corporation are composed of billions of DNA codes plus computer program codes which their purposes are to replicate themselves (DNA) and/or take over all the information they can extract (computers, brains, trivia etc.)
Technology can make a cruel system to appear rational but greed and politics are always hiding behind the scenes, because like the song says, "smiling faces don't tell the truth."
Some of the right wing ideologists, the same ones that deny evolution, are convinced of the doctrine of selfishness and gratification for the fittest in business and war. Over here god doesn't intervene. The survival of the fittest (social Darwinism.)
Adam Smith replaces Christianity and Ronald Reagan becomes a divinity for this illuminated, I mean blinded by the glare of gold. Putting billions in useless weapons systems just to benefit their selected constituency is the right thing to do. But give access to education, health care an so forth to the dispossessed masses is wrong. Robert Kennedy becomes a devil and must be destroyed. Obama plays the role of an illustrated clown in opposition to the previous ignorant puppet. At the end the equation is the same both ways. Run away capitalism + ignorant bastard = endless wars + deficit - Capitalism on leash + illustrated clown = endles wars+deficit+ignorance. Both Democrats and Republicans are slaves of the beast in Wall Street.
